These folio sized drawings were created using graphic pencil for initial sketching and refined with micron pen, emphasizing control precision and patience. The works range from expressive character studies and integrated hand lettering to playful explorations of rounded cartoon forms and detailed botanical observation. Across each drawing the process moves from loose ideation to deliberate resolution using line weight shading and structure to balance expression with clarity. Together these pieces position drawing as a design practice grounded in sustained attention visual analysis and iterative refinement where illustration functions as both exploration and disciplined craft.

"Poppy: Botanical Study"
- As a California raised artist, this work reflects a personal connection to landscape memory and place. The California poppy became a point of return and reflection, recalling the joy of encountering fields of vibrant orange and the sense of openness they represented. Wanting to reconnect with that feeling, I turned to botanical illustration as a way to slow down and engage closely with form, color, and structure. This piece marks the beginning of a focused study of my home state flower, using careful observation and layered mark making to translate memory into measured visual attention.
"Whooo"
- This piece draws from one of my favorite characters from Alice in Wonderland, the Caterpillar, as a way to explore character, expression, and visual play. The drawing experiments with breaking traditional grid structures, allowing composition and form to feel fluid rather than fixed. Custom hand drawn typography is integrated into the image to complement the Caterpillar’s whimsical facial expression, creating a dialogue between text and illustration. The work reflects my interest in using drawing as a design tool to challenge structure while maintaining balance and narrative clarity.
“Bare Necessities”
- This drawing is a line work study of one of my favorite Disney characters, Baloo from The Jungle Book. The focus of the piece is on expressive contour and controlled line variation to define form personality and movement with minimal reliance on shading. By emphasizing line economy and rhythm, the study explores how character and emotion can be conveyed through simplified structure. This work reflects my interest in illustration as a foundational design practice where clarity restraint and expressiveness are closely connected.
